One of Ice Cream's most recent house favorites, CLARION, just dropped "Blue Fairy." The video for the title track off their forthcoming EP (due March 27th) features a ramshackle backline of amplification - representing the very nature of Clarion's vibe as well as can be expected.
The song leans more on early-to-mid-90s under the radar American indie rock like Spinanes or Drop Nineteens than on My Bloody Valentine or Slowdive, which results in something more akin to a punch in the gut than a drift in the clouds. Still, the 'gaze textures form a wonderful little cloud over this deliciously simple, hook-infested single. But what really sets this band apart from many of their peers, especially on this track, is the richness in Saya Oliva's contributions. While simultaneously peppering the track with near-dischordant bass notes for a fraction of a second, here and there in the final act, she pummels your senses with a vocal delivery steeped in desire and a passionate sense of longing for something just out of reach, but that feels a million miles away. (No shade to guitarist, Anthony Sanchez, or drummer, Javier Flores, who both do a bang-up job here.)
I can't possibly recommend this enough to fans of...well, anything, really. It's just too good to relegate it to any "FFO" classification. Watch below and see for yourself.
