Aren't We Amphibians Drop Debut Full Length

On their debut, Parade! Parade!, the San Diego-based trio transform the emo playbook into something weirdly joyful and instantly memorable. The act of “parading,” in the band’s context, is the opposite of wallowing; taking all of your past experiences, good or bad, and using them as a means to appreciate the fact you made it this far at all. With relentless spark and plenty of introspection to go around, Parade! Parade! is perfect for fans of both breakdowns AND breakthroughs.

Formed by Joshua Talbot (he/him; vocalist/guitarist) and his lifelong friends, brothers Brandon (he/him; drummer) and Tyler Cunningham (he/him, bassist), Aren’t We Amphibians–AWA–is a true testament to growing up with your band, not just bouncing from one to the other. Every awkward phase of life has led to the creation of Parade! Parade!, and they’ve experienced it all together.

Throughout the album, they channel early Fall Out Boy, Free Throw, Origami Angel, Delta Sleep, and more to create their own signature sound: equal parts chaos and clarity. On the closing title track, against a backdrop of swirling guitars and a King Of The Hill sample (because, emo), Josh urges listeners to “celebrate the progress that you’ve made.” Like an empty street littered with confetti after a parade has passed through, it serves as a final reminder that life isn’t meant to spent downtrodden about all the fuck-up’s and things that have happened to you.

Instead, Aren’t We Amphibians challenge listeners to throw themselves a parade in spite of it all; carving out their own space for anyone who feels like they’re just too much, too late, or too loud.
